Kiss Your Twin Goodnight

I hope you’re still with me and still enjoying my new spooky little tradition. Here is a cute little short story I wrote in a creative writing class. Something a bit lighter to cleanse your palette for next week’s story. I hope you enjoy and Stay Alive and Be All Over.

“If you don’t go in there, I’ll tell Dad you drank all his diet colas.”  Damien peered down at his brother with a toothy smile. The twins stood outside of an old, run-down house that was once covered in moss and ivy; that life was gone now. The roof sinking into itself, boarded up windows, a house that was once the spectacle of the town, became a whisper of its reign after the owner was found with missing children in his basement. Something about the house reminded Justin of death and their father. “I wouldn’t dream of drinking them! Please, Damien don’t make me go in there. We’d be trespassing, and, don’t you feel that unsettling presence, telling us to go away?” Justin was five inches shorter than his brother, so when he looked up at Damien with those big brown puppy eyes, he was instantly struck across the face. “You owe me somethin’, after gettin’ me in trouble with all them teachers at school, you’re my twin little Justin, you’re ‘spose to have my back, and you didn’t.” Damien was mean, he was a bully, and he was known to make Justin miserable, but he’d never put Justin in danger; it was like he was possessed. Justin turned the doorknob of the house, not knowing what to expect, but what he did see ran a chill down his spine that could only be soothed in death. The two boys walked into the house as the door behind them slowly disappeared. It wasn’t a home they walked into, but a forgotten piece of the universe that God forgot to love. Nothing, as far as the eye could see, just complete emptiness. “Where did you take us, Damien?” Suddenly, a piece of the darkness moved a 15-foot human-like figure. It walked up to the boys, moving as slow as the ocean but as fiercely as fire. It looked down at the two boys and crooked its head to the side. Justin screamed. The figure picked Justin up with two fingers and slowly swallowed little Justin, muffling his screams. Damien sat and stared in shock. The monster peered down at Damien once again and crooked his head, this time with a smile. Damien watched in fear as the monster revealed the front door. He walked out, all alone in the world, for the first time.
